Gamers, fans and supporters of e-sports as well as famous internet personalities were treated to loads of fun and exciting activities at the ASUS ROG Masters Philippine Finals 2017.
Held at SM North EDSA Annex for 2 consecutive days (August 19 and 20), the event crowd witnessed some exciting moments as well as got the chance to win some items that were given away by ASUS ROG themselves, including a gaming laptop as well.
However, it seems that most of the crowd went there also for the chance to see ‘Cong TV’ – or Lincoln Velasquez, a famous internet / YouTube celebrity that is known for his vlogs and skits, along with other internet sensations such as GLOCO of GLOCO Gaming, Ann B. Mateo, RogerRaker and many more.
His videos were always trending on the YouTube PH platform, scoring from Top 50 and below, making his Chicken Feet Gang one of the most noticeable community / supporters for a YouTube personality.
As a vlogger with almost 200,000+ subscribers on YouTube which he calls “Chicken Feet Gang”, Cong uses his cousin’s laptop before for editing his videos – also known as ‘Beigh Sunga’, but when Beigh left to go back to his province up north, Cong was left with no options for a computer to use – leading to delayed vlogs (once a month upload) and staying up overnight to his fellow YouTubers’ house just to edit videos for his release.
Since he was sponsored by ASUS for mobile (ZenFone), he thought and joked about it that he should try to request for a gaming laptop to be his companion for editing through a vlog – making it controversial, not only for his fans, but also to his critics, and even many tech enthusiasts who had mixed opinions with regards to that wish.
But that joke escalated when he became consistent on mentioning ASUS on every single vlog he uploads after the first, making some of his fans to pressure the brand to give Cong the laptop that he wants.
He even touted that Marlon (his younger brother) – known for playing DotA 2 on his vlogs always, will have no chance of playing with that laptop – which makes the story more interesting, knowing that the laptop is a gaming one and should be used accordingly.
When ASUS Republic of Gamers posted on their Facebook page about their page hitting nearly 3 million likes (around 2.98M at the time of posting), Cong challenged them that if his Chicken Feet Gang helped them to reach that 3 million like milestone, ASUS ROG should give him the gaming laptop that he wishes for – and both ASUS, and ASUS ROG accepted.
And days after, ASUS ROG Facebook page reaches 3 million likes, beating the challenge and the company was pressured by his fans to give Cong the laptop already – on every post, comment and even unrelated topic, there was somebody saying #LaptopNiCong #ASUSAnoNa #ASUSROGLaptopNiCong and so much more hashtags on their Facebook page – maybe their social media managers were really sick of it.
After weeks of waiting, Cong was told that he might get his laptop on one of the ASUS’s big events happening both on August 19th, which was actually disclosed to us before the event. Even some fans already knew that Cong will be at the event, so there could be a possibility of a laptop turn-over.
On every influencer that were given free/sponsored items, there is some sort of process and agreement before releasing a product – like some sort of memorandum or contractual agreement for the use of the said item, and since Cong was already sponsored by ASUS before, we assume that this process was already done before the actual turn-over.
And on August 20th, the most-awaited moment for his fans had happened – the appearance of Cong on the event made the whole event grounds shouted, disrupting even the on-going CS:GO tournament inside the event grounds with his fans shouting #POWER all around. He arrived with his girlfriend Viy, younger brother Marlon, Ojo of Kamoteng Kahoy Gaming, Senpai Kazu and RogerRaker – also known YouTube personalities.
Cong was even interviewed and touted as the special guest by the shoutcasters and hosts of the event – taking that chance to give his thanks and remarks to his fans, and also to ASUS ROG. He also gave advice to his fans to stay calm because they are already on the ‘final stage’, and to avoid any further accidents/incidents as well.
On the night, when all the people are busy watching the DotA 2 finals between Execration and Entity Gaming, the actual turn-over happened outside the event grounds, at the ROG Concept Store, still on SM North EDSA Annex, and was unannounced and witnessed only by few people.
According to our source from ASUS, the laptop that was given is an ASUS ROG GL702VM, priced at PhP119,995, and its specs can be seen through HERE so that for you to be informed, or let’s say, jealous.
You can watch Cong TV’s vlog about his journey to the ROG Laptop here as well (see video below)
And that’s it.
Although many seemed to be jealous regarding this matter, let’s just be happy for Cong and hope for the best for both companies, as well as to ASUS ROG to get their investment in return.
