QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES – AUGUST 20, 2017 – Gamers, fans and supporters of e-sports as well as famous internet personalities were treated to loads of fun and exciting activities at the ASUS ROG Masters Philippine Finals 2017.
Held at SM North EDSA Annex for 2 consecutive days (August 19 and 20), the event crowd witnessed some exciting moments as well as got the chance to win some items that were given away by ASUS ROG themselves, including a gaming laptop as well – aside from the main event which is the tournament between finalists for both DotA 2 and CS:GO competing for PH representation on the APAC Regional leg of the ROG Masters.
The ASUS ROG Masters is a worldwide series of e-sports events, with country and regional qualifiers as well as having a total prize pool of USD $500,000. The Philippine Qualifiers commenced months ago and this event marks the final stop of the Philippine leg (though ASUS also announced on the said event that the APAC Regional Qualifier leg will also commence here in the Philippines – with no further details such as the venue as of this writing).
However, while all people are busy enjoying the match between the finalists – we’re at the back side enjoying ROG products shown at their experience area – ranging from gaming peripherals such as keyboards, headsets and mouse, to gaming laptops, gaming monitors and gaming PCs. Some of the products shown there and below are the ones that are recently launched in the country.
ASUS ROG ZEPHYRUS GX501
Known for its extreme thin-ness while housing a desktop-grade GTX 1080 or GTX 1070 and some other awesome features in it, this beast made a cameo appearance at the event – although it was enclosed in a glass shell (that’s why spectators can only look on its beauty) and we can’t get any further picture aside from those above. We’ve already witnessed and tried one before, and it’s absolutely gorgeous and powerful than what you think.
ASUS ROG STRIX XG27VQ
One of the newest curved gaming monitors from ASUS ROG equipped with Aura RGB sparkles, this gaming monitor makes its Philippine debut on the event. It is a 27″ Full HD display with a 144Hz refresh rate plus an 1800R curvature – meeting gamers’ demands while giving the curved viewing experience.
ASUS ROG SWIFT PG348Q
One of my favorite curved ultra-wide, the ROG SWIFT PG348Q is a 34″ monitor with a 21:9 aspect ratio but only a 3440×1440 resolution. Also doesn’t sport the 144Hz refresh rate that most gamers might appreciate, but it can be overclocked from 60Hz up to 100Hz – which is not bad at all, given the immersive feeling on games – particularly racing, given that we only had Project Cars as the demo out there.
ASUS ROG GR8 II
You might thought of it as a console, but yep, this is a gaming PC. This mini gaming PC is also present on the event, providing players with the chance to play Tekken 7, CS:GO and NBA 2K17. It’s VR-ready, RGB-sparkled with Aura sync enabled and you can learn more about this little beast through this link HERE.
There are more laptops, gaming peripherals as well as custom-built X299 gaming PCs shown at the event, as well as hardware from partners such as Seagate and others – though they’re inside the PCs so let’s skip out on that.
But, if you are here to know which team won the tournament finals and who will represent the Philippines on the upcoming Asia Pacific Regional leg this October, we’ve got your back as well!
For CS:GO – we have the Mineski CS:GO team which played a pretty good and intense game against their opponent Rekt Esports, gaining their chance, again, to represent the country in the series of CS:GO tournaments here and abroad, taking home PhP75,000 as cash prize as well.
And for DotA 2, which could be considered as the highlight or the main event, are the ones fresh from Seattle and The International 7 – Execration. The team had proven their worth of that slot in the said prestigious DotA 2 tournament, giving the audience a good game to watch and their very intense comeback versus Entity Gaming on the series ending 2-1. They also took PhP125,000 as cash prize, adding to their PhP6M prize earned from the recent The International 7 – making me jealous of how these e-sports pro players earn while sitting, playing their favorite game and living out the dream.
Now, for the bonus, we have also seen notable celebrities as well attending the event and performing like Rivermaya, but one of the highlights, perhaps – is the anticipated laptop turn-over and arrival of Cong TV, which we’ve detailed on a separate article below.
